He starred in two hits Kathalil Vizhunthen and Masilamani and his Kandha Kottai has released this Friday. We chat up with actor Nakul who is excited about the film. What’s more, is that the film has taken on none other than Vijay’s Vettaikaran. Nakul tells us why he’s nervous and more.
So how does it feel releasing your film with Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay? Are you nervous?
Vijay sir is a huge star and I am just a newcomer. I am nervous before the release of every film of mine. So it’s not because of the competition. I want all films to do well. That’s what is healthy for Tamil cinema. We both have worked hard for our films and I want the industry to boom.
What’s your role like in Kandha kottai?
I play a boy, Siva, who does not like the idea of love and is always trying to break up lovers while Poorna is just the opposite and is always trying to unite people. It’s a commercial entertainer with action, comedy and romance produced by Kalpathi S Aghoram. Santhanam has done a Casanova character that’s going to rock. Dhina’s music is awesome.
The character Siva doesn’t like love but is Nakul in love?
(Laughs) Yes in my teenage years but it didn’t work out.
What’s the significance of the title?
Well, My character stays in Kandakottai colony.
How come you have always been linked with the heroines you work with?
It’s weird how these rumours spread. ( laughs) But I think if both I and my co-stars have performed so well to make audiences believe that there is something between us then I feel we have done our jobs well as actors!
So what’s the secret of your on screen chemistry?
Well the thing is to make your co star very comfortable. The person should trust you. I tell them we should be good friends since we have to work together. We should enjoy our work and that translates into chemistry I guess.
We hear there were lots of fights with Poorna?
She’s a very bubbly girl and we did share a great rapport being the same age group. It made it easier to work with. The fights you mention are only on screen but sometimes we would end up arguing on friendly terms on the sets. It was all in fun.
You have also sung for this film?
Yes I was humming a tune and Dhina sir felt I would be good at it and the next thing I know is that he wants me to sing for the film! Of course I have sung before in songs like Remo and X Machi Y Machi etc, so I grabbed the opportunity. We recorded it in around two hours. It was great fun.
