Aamir Khan’s Rajkumar Hirani directed 3 Idiots, which opened on Thursday evening to ‘Paid Previews’ (PP) in Chennai has taken a 100 percent opening in four screens!
3 Idiots, has grossed revenues of Rs 9 Crore on day one of its release worldwide (Dec 25) in 1894 screens. It’s a new record for an Indian film and Rs 2 crore more than his 2008 blockbuster Ghajini!
Now Aamir has scored a hat trick of Christmas blockbusters for the last three years- Taare Zameen Par (2007), Ghajini (2008), and 3 Idiots (2009)!
We salute Aamir for his unique feat. In Chennai the film has taken the best ever PP in Chennai and the film carries “extraordinary reports” and all the reviews so far has been glowing.
The film which released on Christmas day in eight Chennai screens has opened big, and most of them have been sold out for the weekend. Reliance Big Pictures is marketing the film aggressively in Tamil Nadu.
According to a leading trade analyst: “Aamir Khan has proved that he is the clear Number One Bollywood hero in Chennai, who commands a huge opening like any Tamil superstar. It’s now clear that 3 Idiots will break Ghajani’s opening weekend record for a Hindi film in Chennai”
When contacted, a delighted Madhavan one of the stars of the film said: “ I’ am really happy to know that 3 Idiots has been so enthusiastically lapped up by the Chennai audiences. The film is turning out to be a super hit worldwide due its universal theme and presentation. I wanted to be in Chennai to show my friends the film but I was caught up with the world premiere and promotions of the film”.
