The film has been made at a budget of over Rs.25 crore (Rs.250 million) and has been dubbed in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.
Mammootty said it was worth waiting for the movie.
"I am of course happy and what made me happier is the fact that people said they felt a sense of patriotism after seeing the film. That is why I feel that this is the cinema of the century," added the superstar who has had an excellent 2009 year with all his films becoming box office hits.
Expectations were high from "Pazhassi Raja" because Mammootty, eminent writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair and director Hariharan came together after two decades. Other high points of the film are Illayaraja's music and the sound effects by Oscar winner Resul Pookutty.
The film is set in the 18th century and is about Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja of the Kottayam royal family. Irked by the revenue policy of East India Company in Malabar, Pazhassi Raja's was one of the first voices to be raised against British rule in India, though not many people are aware of him outside Kerala.
The film's climax has been changed.
"They have changed a bit because originally Pazhassi Raja commits suicide and in the film he is seen falling to the bullet of the British. Overall it has come out well and a must see," said Aravind Sasi, film critic who saw the first show.
Pakru holds the record for being the shortest actor to play a full-length hero ('Atbhutha Dweepu').
He plays Kunjumon, a cook in Malappuram, who runs a flourishing catering business with his son Albie (Jayaram). Albie wants to marry a girl who will not laugh at his father and zeroes in on Ancy (Kaniha). Soon, they take the marriage vows and what happens next forms the crux of the story.
Suresh Menon and Satheesh K Sivan pen the script. Vipin Mohan is the cameraman and Alex Paul composes the music.








One of the top class directors in Malayalam film indsutry, Sathyan Anthikad is going to make his new film. This will be Sathyan Anthicad's next film after one of the last years hit Innathe Chinta Vishayam with Superstar Mohanlal. This untitled movie will feature Sathyan Anthicad's old mentor Jayaram in the lead. Manasinakkare, that was released in 2003 was the last film that featured both the actor and director together.It is heard that Kanika has been signed by Sathyan Anthicad for his new movie. Kanika is a Tamil actress, who got to fame with her debut film Five Star and with a second lead role in Ajith's Varalaru. After her marriage last year, she had now turned into more selective, and is waiting for good scripts. She is currently doing Pazhassi Raja, a Magnum opus in Malayalam with Superstar Mammootty. It is to be remembered that Kanika have done a Malayalam film earlier, Ennittum in 2006 along with some new comers.
Sathyan Anthicad's new film will start it's shooting by the end of this month. It will feature all of the Sathyan favourites like Mamukoya, Innocent, Nedumudi Venu and KPAC lalitha along with the lead actors. The movie which tells the story about a Christian family residing in the Kuuttanad area is produced by M M hamza in the banner of KalaSangham. Like his recent films, Sathyan Anthicad himself have handled the script and the music will be handled by Ilayaraja. The movie is expected to reach the theatres by the start of May.
