Saraswati Puja and Basant Panchami 2010 will be celebrated on Wednesday 20th January by Hindus in India and around the world. Bansant Panchami is also known as Vasant Panchami or Shree Panchami and is celebrated to honor the Goddess of Knowledge Saraswati.
araswati is the Hindu goddess of knowledge, art and music. Almost all Hindu students are devotee of the Hindu Goddess and on the day of Vasant Panchami, many children are taught to write their first words in pre-primary schools in India.
On this day Hindus wear yellow cloth and yellow colored laddoos are distributed to family and friend. In Mauritius the festival is less known but devoted Hindus will attend special prayer ceremonies held in temples across the island.
Many parents also keep notebooks, pens and educational items near the Goddess statue on this day. These are distributed among students or their own children at the end of Basant Panchami. If you will be celebrating the festival tomorrow, then have a pious Basant Panchami 2010.

Former Indian Skipper Sourav Ganguly has said that he will always remember the former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyothi Basu for two reasons.
Sourav said he will remember his presence during their wedding and the moment he congratulated him after scoring back to back hundreds against England during his debut.
"I will always remember him for two things. He had come to my wedding and congratulated Dona and me and also congratulated me after my debut Test series against England where I scored two centuries"—he said.
"Life comes to an end in death and that is natural, everybody has to bow to death. There is no third umpire here. We have lost a legend"—he added.

China! tried to hack our computers - M K Narayanan
National Security Adviser (NSA) M K Narayanan said, Chinese hackers tried to break into computers in the office of India's NSA.
“This was not the first instance of an attempt to hack into our computers," he stated.
He informed that his office and other government departments were targeted on December 15, the same date that US companies reported cyber attacks from China.
Narayanan said that the attack came in the form of an e-mail with a PDF attachment which contained a 'Trojan' virus, which allows a hacker to access a computer remotely and download or delete files.
He added, the virus was detected and officials were told not to log on until it was eliminated.
Chinese hackers are suspected to be responsible for this virus attack.
"People seem to be fairly sure it was the Chinese. It is difficult to find the exact source but this is the main suspicion. It seems well founded," he said and added, India was co-operating with the US and UK to bolster its cyber defences.
China has denied any role in the hacking attacks, which began on December 15 and also targeted US defence contractors and finance and technology companies, including the search engine giant Google.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said, "Hacking in whatever form is prohibited by law in China."
Google had last week threatened to close its operations in China after a series of cyber attacks on the email accounts of Chinese human rights activists.
Narayanan said he expected China to be increasingly high priority for India's security apparatus but that the main threat still came from Pakistan-based militants.

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates has launched a personal website for the first time.
The website is designed to share his thoughts on everything from his foundation work to musings on other topics including energy and the environment.
In his greeting to new users of GatesNotes.com, he writes, “since leaving my fulltime job at Microsoft to dedicate more time to our [charitable] foundation, a lot of people have asked me what I'm working on. I'm fortunate because the people I'm working with and learning from are true experts in their fields. I take a lot of notes [and] I thought it would be interesting to share these conversations more widely with a website.”
He goes on to say that his hope is that the site will “get more people thinking and learning about the issues I think are interesting and important.”
Gates Notes includes a section dubbed "What I'm Thinking," with topics including the crisis in Haiti and the role of innovation in addressing global warming.
The other topics include, “What I’m Thinking About”, “What I’m Learning”, “My Travels” and “Curious Classroom", in which Gates answers questions from schoolchildren around the world.

Ethiopian Plane Crash
A Lebanese aviation official reported that an Ethiopian Airlines plane carrying 83 passengers and nine crew disappeared from radar shortly after takeoff from Beirut. Officials are quoted saying that the plane may have crashed into the sea.
The plane was headed to Ethiopia. About 50 of the passengers were Lebanese, the official said.

IT Raids rock Tamil Cinema
Officials of the Income Tax department on Tuesday carried out searches on the premises of several film personalities in Chennai and various parts of Tamil Nadu.
Based on a tip-off that film personalities have undeclared income, tax officials conducted searches at the residences of actors Suriya, Vadivelu, directors K S Ravikumar and A R Murugadas. Income tax officials in Madurai region searched Vadivelu's house there.
Spread over separate teams, IT sleuths descended at actor Suriya's residences in T Nagar and Adyar and that of Ravikumar's house at Saidapet. Though the officials were tightlipped about the seizures during the raids, sources said the raids were conducted for alleged tax evasion.
“The searches are in initial stages and details would be provided in a day or two after getting definite information,” officials were quoted as saying.
It may be noted that Suriya, Vadivelu and Ravikumar had combined together for the recent ‘Aadhavan’, which was produced by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's grand son Udhayanidhi Stalin. Murugados was said to be the director of a forthcoming
project of Udhayanidhi.
