Mani Rathnam, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bhachan
Ace Indian director Mani Ratnam has now recovered after his heart ailment, and is all set on beginning his quest for perfection again. Mani has decided to reshoot certain portions of his Abhishek-Aishwarya starrer film Ravana. He has asked the cast to give him fresh dates for the reshoot.
According to a source, Mani Ratnam decided to rope in cinematographer Santosh Sivan (of the Asoka fame) for Ravana in place of Manikandan (who last worked for Billu), who had already shot for the film. He was extremely pleased with the results of Sivan's work. Another reason for the reshoot was that Mani Ratnam felt that South star Vikram was getting more prominence in the film than the lead Abhishek. This led to several discussions with his team, after which he decided to reshoot in July for over 30 days.
One of the actors has this to say about the reshoot: “Yes, we have been asked to give fresh dates but we don't know why. No one dares to question Mani sir. I am sure whatever he does will be for the betterment of the film.”
Ravana is Mani Rathnam's most ambitious project, and he is certainly leaving no stones unturned!
