Burj Dubai Lake Fountain Program

An area of 20,000 square meters of the lake, which was previously used as a temporary lake to catch storm water runoff and had been exposed to bacterial growth. These areas are cleaned to remove bacterial growth and then treated with X-Treat Sanitizer to clean the surface of concrete to prevent future bacteria growth. Surface preparation was completed using a captive blasting technique. Six captive blast team was able to prepare 6000m2 of concrete surface per day. This process gave a slightly exposed aggregate finish, which revealed all bug holes (blow holes). X-Shield Bug Fill, a two component high build thixotropic epoxy resin was used to fill bug holes and surface imperfections prior to coating the lake bed.

Only 4 years old and a key element in the prestigious Westin Diplomat Hotel, the group of 3 fountain was discovered that water leaking into the foyer and underground car park. The fountain built of concrete was originally coated with epoxy coating, which showed signs of cracks and delamination. When these fountains were located in the central reception of a very busy hotel any remedial work should be implemented quickly with minimal disruption to guests. There was a need for a liner system that could cure rapidly gives a quick return to service, flexibility and chemical UV-resistant and can operate in full immersion.

Rawmat HDB - Waterproofing Case History :

The elevator pit needed to be deepened to meet building codes. The lift shaft was also subjected to frequent flooding due to the high water table. Geotechnical studies showed Perchloroethlene (perc) in the soil. Perc is very volatile and classified by EPA as a carcinogen Class1. Perc is a strong solvent and very aggressive to most waterproofing materials. The problem was to find a waterproofing system that could withstand Perc. Led by external consultant GZA, contaminated water is collected and used to test Rawmat HDB membrane to prove that the product will be resistant to Perc contamination in the system.

Reflects Pond, 3M World HQ :

Originally built in the late 1960s, the Reflecting Pond was covered with asphalt and contained 3ft deep water. Because of the harsh Minnesota winters, the pond held water for only 6 months of the year (May-September). Over time, it had cracked asphalt substrate, and it cost the owners $ 30,000 to $ 40,000 a year to keep the pond watertight. There was a need for a liner system to waterproof the old and cracked substrate and also withstand the 6 months wet and dry 6 months UV exposure over many years with out blasting.
