On-set feuding? Possible Simon Cowell replacements? Grammy weekend was abuzz with American Idol gossip.
"I talked to Kara just a second ago," Kris Allen told TV Guide Magazine at the Pre-Grammy Gala & Salute to Industry Icons with Clive Davis Party. "I heard a little birdy say that [Ellen] was being kinda mean—not like mean, mean, but Simon mean."
So, is there truth to the dispute? "Ellen has such a big personality and Simon has such a big personality," he said. "If you stick those people right next to each other, they're going to butt heads. And that's OK. It makes the show good."
Randy Jackson, jokingly, begged to differ: "Noooo. Never with Idol. Headbutting? Come on!"
Don't expect a straight answer about specifics either. When asked if Ellen was, indeed, angry that Simon showed up late to set, Jackson gave an equally cryptic answer. "You mean people show up late in the entertainment business? Noooo! This is craziness. This is crazy talk."
No one joked about Cowell's departure. "He's my boy. I love him. We're friends forever. BFF's for life," said Jackson.
"I think it's going to be weird without him, but Idol will still be great," added Allen. "I don't think anybody can fill his shoes, but I watched the show the other night and Katy Perry did a really good job. So, you never know…"
