As we wind down to the party of the year - after all, it's the last, and biggest, bash of 2009 - we tell you what your man should be wearing on New Year's Eve. What's more, we even got a guy (see picture) to model and demonstrate!
Style check
After a survey of menswear for Fall/Winter '09, and listening to advice from GQ magazine stylist Natasha Chib, we came up with a list of essential trends your man could pick from:
- Anything purple is hot, hot, hot! Wear them as stripes, micro stripes, solid colours…
- If he won't wear purple, jewel-toned shirts or even monochromes are hot
- You (well, actually he) can't go wrong with some subtle sequin or a little bling, provided he's comfortable with it
- If he's angling for a more formal look, single-button suits are the way to go.
- Depending on where you're going, loafers, boat shoes or even funky sneakers are A-Ok!
- Wear jeans with tapering legs for a more tailored look
- Slip into slip-on boat shoes etc for an edgier party look
That's when Chib stepped in and helped him pick out a couple of very interesting options at The Collective, a menswear store at Phoenix Mills, Mumbai.
Look 1:
Jeans: Armani
Price: Rs9,000
Shirt: Richard James
Price: Rs12,000
Jacket: Etro
Price:Rs73,000
The jeans and star-patterned shirt ('Richard James make the coolest shirts,' said Chib) adhere to the 'not too formal' diktat, the textured midnight blue jacket adds a polished formality to the look.
Look 2:
Jeans: Eams Sewn
Price: Rs9,000
Shirt: The Collective
Price: Rs4,500
Shoes: Car shoes
Price: Rs12,000
"If you want to avoid the jacket, wear a tux shirt. It's still formal enough," said Chib, who paired the purple tux shirt with tapering jeans. 'They're another hot trend this season. They create a more tailored, put-together look," she added.
"Just remember a little bit goes a long way," said Chib, "after all, men like to be comfortable in what they're wearing."
